Forty-one CMCers enjoyed the 2015 In-State Outing held in Rocky Mountain National Park. The Elk Creek Campground in Grand Lake was perfect for our gathering. Most folks tented, while a few opted for the comforts of a cabin. The “circus” tent was our community tent, where we ate, shared stories, and listened to stories from two park rangers. An especially entertaining part of each evening was our “hike hash.” Each hiking group was given the opportunity to put a music/poetry/story-telling session together detailing their day’s trips. Many great laughs, for sure!
We arrived in Grand Lake on Sunday and departed Friday morning. Each day there were five hikes of varying difficulty. Thanks to the leaders that made our week special. The food was prepared daily by a traveling chef, and we all agreed it sure beat backpack food. Each evening ended with our own guitarist/songwriter serenading us in front of the campfire.
I’m embarrassed to say this was my first In-State Outing. My loss. I’ll work hard to make another happen.
